Overview
The Nordic 44 is a Robert Perry design built by Nordic Yachts in Bellingham, Washington, from 1980 to 1989, with 39 completed. Norstar Yachts later built a version as the Norstar 44.
Design and Construction
The standard boat has a fin keel and a skeg-hung rudder, 43.83 ft overall on a 35.42 ft waterline, 12.92 ft of beam and 7 ft of draft. Displacement is 23,250 lb with 9,340 lb of ballast, and the masthead sloop carries about 919 sq ft. A shoal keel drawing 5.5 ft and a centerboard model drawing 5 to 9 ft were also built.
Ocean Racing Record
Bonspiel (James J. Richter) finished the Newport Bermuda Race (2006, 2008). Music (John McCartney) finished the Pacific Cup (2008).
Buyers Notes
John Neal rates it 2 of 5 and calls it attractive, with solvable problems at the mast step and hull-deck joint (see Known Issues). Check which keel a boat has.
Below, the Nordic 44 sleeps six, with a double V-berth forward, an L-shaped settee and a straight settee in the main cabin, and an aft cabin with a double berth to port. There are two heads, one aft of the bow cabin and one in the aft cabin. The galley is U-shaped on the port side, forward of the companionway, with a nav station opposite. Production ended when the company shut down after the 1991 US luxury tax.
