John Neal's Boats to Consider for Ocean Cruising lists the Seguin 44, rated 2 of 5: 'Semi-custom, Maine-built, powerful and attractive boats. Builder does refits.' Its capsize screen value is 1.71.

Overview

The Seguin 44 is a Sparkman & Stephens design built semi-custom by Lyman-Morse in Thomaston, Maine, from 1980. Only about 15 were built.

Design and Construction

sailboatdata.com lists a fin keel with a skeg-hung rudder, 43.08 ft overall on a 33.54 ft waterline, 12.83 ft of beam and 6.25 ft of draft. It displaces 27,000 lb, and the masthead sloop carries about 874 sq ft. Cruising World’s Maine cruising feature says Cabot Lyman bought the Thomaston yard in 1978 after sailing across the Atlantic and cruising the Mediterranean. It adds that the yard soon built the Sparkman & Stephens Seguin 40s, 44s and 49s, which it calls high-end, semicustom, fast and seaworthy bluewater sloops.

Buyers Notes

John Neal rates it 2 of 5 and calls it powerful and attractive. Being semi-custom, boats differ, and the original yard still does refits.
