Overview
The Oceanis 461 is a Bruce Farr design built by Beneteau in France from 1996 to 2001, with 210 completed and an interior by Armel Briand. Many went into charter fleets, sold as the Moorings 463, 464 and 465 with different cabin layouts, and Cruising World named it 1997’s best value full-size cruiser.
Design and Construction
It has a fin keel with a cast iron bulb and a spade rudder. sailboatdata.com lists 46.59 ft overall on a 39.37 ft waterline, 13.95 ft of beam and 5.74 ft of draft. Displacement is 20,944 lb with 7,496 lb of ballast, and the masthead sloop carries about 832 sq ft.
Ocean Passages
Sanamiru finished ARC 2025, from Las Palmas to Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia.
Buyers Notes
Many 461s spent years in charter, so the survey should look hard at the keel joint, the bonded liner and the rig (see Known Issues). Its capsize screen value is 2.03, just over the usual offshore guideline.
