Overview
The Discovery 55 is a Ron Holland design built by Discovery Yachts in England from 2000, with 52 completed. It was drawn as a short-handed bluewater cruiser.
Design and Construction
Robert Perry describes a moderate hull with U-shaped sections forward, a longish lead keel with a bulb set in a deep molded sump, and a rudder hung on a half skeg with plenty of balance area. sailboatdata.com lists 54.79 ft overall on a 49.21 ft waterline, 15.68 ft of beam and 7.32 ft of draft. Displacement is 49,604 lb with 20,944 lb of ballast, and the masthead sloop carries about 1,238 sq ft.
Below there are three cabins and two heads, with a pilot berth in the saloon. Perry would have liked wider side decks.
Ocean Passages
Eupraxia finished ARC 2025, from Las Palmas to Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia.
Buyers Notes
John Neal rates it 3 of 5 and calls the yard fairly high quality but financially unsteady (see Known Issues).
