Overview
The Hallberg-Rassy 37 is a German Frers center-cockpit sloop built in Ellös, Sweden, from 2003 to 2012, replacing the Hallberg-Rassy 36. About 200 were built.
Design and Construction
Frers lengthened the waterline over the 36 and fitted a bulbed lead fin keel, held by 15 stainless keelbolts, with the rudder on a half skeg. The hull has Kevlar reinforcement in the keel area and Divinycell sandwich above the waterline and in the deck. Displacement is about 16,500 lb with 7,100 lb of ballast. The Yachtsnet archive notes a large engine room under the cockpit with room for extra equipment such as a generator, and generous tankage for long range cruising. The interior joinery is light mahogany with a silk varnish finish, saloon headroom is 6 ft 4 in, and the aft cabin is well separated from the saloon. The later Hallberg-Rassy 372 is a different, aft-cockpit hull with a lower ballast ratio.
Under Sail
Yachting Monthly found her well balanced and tracking well, a relaxing boat to steer even on long passages. The sloop rig carries about 744 sq ft with a working jib.
Buyers Notes
Yachting Monthly found the workmanship and finish almost impossible to fault. As with any center-cockpit boat of this size, check access to the engine and systems under the cockpit.
