The Sabre 42 is a Roger Hewson design from Sabre Yachts in Maine, built from 1987 to 1989, with 62 completed.
Design and Construction
sailboatdata.com lists a fin keel with a skeg-hung rudder, 41.75 ft overall on a 34 ft waterline, 12.67 ft of beam and 6.83 ft of draft. Displacement is 18,800 lb with 7,800 lb of ballast, and the masthead sloop carries about 755 sq ft. Good Old Boat’s profile of Sabre founder Roger Hewson shows him supervising the development of the Sabre 42 in the shop in 1987. It says the 42, along with the Sabre 34 and 38, was rated highest in its size range in Sailing World’s Boat of the Year awards.
Buyers Notes
John Neal rates Sabres 3 of 5: built in Maine and very pretty, but of modest quality with limited tankage and storage.
