Overview
The C&C 35 was one of the first designs from Cuthbertson & Cassian (C&C Designs), originally built by Hinterhoeller Yachts and sold as the Redwing 35 before Hinterhoeller’s merger into C&C Yachts, at which point the boat took the C&C name. This Mark I generation ran from 1969 to 1973, with 351 hulls built across the Mark I and Mark II combined; two later, meaningfully different generations (Mark II, 1973-1975; Mark III, 1982-1987) followed under the same model name with different displacement, ballast, and draft.
Design and Construction
At 10,500 lb displacement with a 48 percent ballast ratio, the Mark I carries a fixed fin keel drawing 5.25 ft and a balsa-cored fiberglass deck over a fiberglass hull, powered originally by a 30 hp Universal Atomic 4 gasoline engine. The masthead sloop rig emphasizes the racer-cruiser brief C&C was known for.
Under Sail
Mike Hennessy sailed the Bermuda 1-2 in a C&C 35 Mark III, a later generation with a different hull and rig.
Buyers Notes
Given three distinct C&C 35 generations share the same model name with real differences in displacement, ballast, and draft, confirming exactly which generation a specific used hull belongs to matters more than usual for this design before comparing it against other boats or relying on any single source’s specifications.
