Overview
The Attalia 32 traces its lines directly to Air Bigouden, the 1981 IOR Half Ton class world champion, adapted by designers Joubert and Nivelt into a family cruiser for Jeanneau. It was one of the earlier boats to successfully blend genuine performance-hull thinking with a livable interior, built in France from 1982 to 1988.
Design and Construction
At just under 7,500 lb displacement with a 39 percent ballast ratio, the Attalia 32 is a light, race-influenced hull by the standards of most boats in this catalog. The hull is fiberglass with a balsa-cored deck, carrying a masthead sloop rig. Three keel configurations were offered: a deep-draft fin (5.7 ft, the figures used here), a shallower fin option, and a swing keel for shoal water, giving buyers real flexibility depending on cruising grounds.
Under Sail
No named ocean passage is on file yet. Independent sourcing describes it as well suited to coastal and light offshore sailing, but explicitly cautions that its lightweight construction makes it a poorer fit for sustained heavy offshore conditions than a heavier-displacement design.
Buyers Notes
Confirm which of the three keel configurations a specific hull carries, since draft and sailing characteristics differ meaningfully between them. Given the light-displacement racing pedigree behind this design, expect a livelier motion at sea than a heavier full-keel cruiser of similar length.
