Pacific Cup

1980–2024 finishes, elapsed times, and PassageBoats catalog matches

The Pacific Cup is a race of more than 2,100 nautical miles from San Francisco to Kaneohe, Hawaii. The Pacific Cup Yacht Club has run it in even-numbered years since 1980. The fleet includes doublehanded boats, family crews, cruising boats, and purpose-built racers.

The race organizer's boat census records every published finish through 2024. It gives a useful answer to a narrow question: which designs have completed this ocean course, how often, and in what average elapsed time? A finish is evidence for the prepared boat that made the passage. It is not a rating of every sistership or a substitute for inspection, equipment, and crew judgment.

All 22 completed editions represented in the census are linked below. Early years point to the organizer's scan index. Later years point to the individual result page.

The 2020 race was cancelled and is not counted as an edition.

Data Notes

  • The organizer states that the census covers every Pacific Cup with published results from 1980 through 2024.
  • The source excludes boats recorded as DNF, DNS, retired, or outside the time limit because they have no finish time.
  • Finish counts treat each race finish as one record, including repeat finishes by the same physical boat.
  • Average elapsed time is the simple average of actual passage time, not corrected or handicap time.
  • The organizer normalized obvious spelling variants. Rare or ambiguous designs may remain split.
  • Scanned results for 1998 through 2006 required OCR. The organizer skipped illegible rows instead of guessing.
  • The 2020 race was cancelled, so the 22 editions span 23 possible even-numbered race years.
  • These are finish records. Starts that ended in retirement or withdrawal need the individual year results and are not included in the census totals.
  • Catalog matches are manual and conservative. Generic or ambiguous source labels are not linked to a PassageBoats page.
